Add line numbers
Paste a list or document and every line gets a sequential number. Blank lines are numbered too, so positions always match the original.

When NOT to use Add Line Numbers
- Numbering is baked into the text once you copy it — if you plan to keep editing the list, number it last, or the numbers will fall out of sync.
- It numbers lines only; it can't add legal-style line numbering to a formatted document (Word or PDF) — do that in the document editor.

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your text is never uploaded, stored, or sent anywhere.
Can I start from a number other than 1?
Yes — set any starting number (including 0) and the lines count up from there.
Does it number blank lines?
Blank lines are numbered too, so the numbering always matches the line positions of your original text.
